Who we are
Pipe Organ Specialties was founded in 1978 by Madison Lindsey in Laurel, Mississippi. Driven by a lifelong passion for the pipe organ—the “king of instruments”—Madison set out to build, restore, and maintain these grand instruments with unwavering dedication to craftsmanship and tonal excellence. Over the decades, his work has preserved and enhanced the sound of pipe organs in churches and performance spaces across the country.
In 1997, Madison’s nephew Greg Smith joined the workshop, bringing his own enthusiasm and skill to the family enterprise. What began as hands-on collaboration has evolved into a true partnership, with Greg contributing significantly to the business’s growth and continued success. Together, Madison and Greg uphold the highest standards in every project: crafting bespoke new pipe organs, expertly restoring and rebuilding existing ones, performing fine voicing, tuning, and regulation, handling relocations and expansions (including seamless pipe additions and high-quality digital enhancements from Walker Technical, and offering thoughtful consultations.
Our commitment to excellence extends throughout the workshop. We’ve been fortunate to have skilled team members who share our passion, including Antonio Moreno, who has worked with us for 20 years focused mainly on rebuilding and leatherwork—bringing invaluable expertise and steady hands to countless projects.
Rooted in Laurel, our family-operated business approaches each organ with deep respect for its history, acoustic role, and sacred purpose. We listen carefully to our clients and deliver work that honors tradition while embracing reliable modern techniques.
At Pipe Organ Specialties, this is more than a profession—it’s a family calling rooted in nearly five decades of commitment. We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve and to help these timeless instruments continue inspiring worship and music for generations to come.
